Latte Macchiato - the recipe
One of the most popular hot drinks of the century is the Latte Macchiato. The reason is, that is optically and tastefully speciality from Italy. In fact, the words latte macchiato mean "spotted milk".
Nevertheless, here's the recipe for this culinary pleasure!
Tools for producing a latte macchaito
In fact, a latte macchiato is nothing else than foamed milk, and a espresso put in it.
But like everytime the details are important: a good maked macchaito is made of several layers, which do not
run together.
The necessary tools should be available in every household: a flat pot, a whisker, a small can and a glass for the macchiato. A high glass, little bit more thick would be fine. You will put hot milk in it and the glass should be good enough for this.
And, of course, you'll need the machine for the espresso. I'd prefer the models from SAECO. They
grind the espresso fresh and finely. I'd also prefer the espresso from Lavazza. This fits my personal taste.
The Foamed Milk
I'm a little bit ashamed, because I've never been able to produce a properly foamed milk with the steam nozzle
of the espresso machine. I prefer the old way: put the milk in to a flat pot, stir properly with a whisk while
softly heat up the milk. In few more than a minute you'll get a really fine milk foam. The foam is wunderful
stable, even airy, and has fine pores.
Put this milk foam with a ladle in the glass. There can be liquid milk thereby, no problem. Fill the glass
almost completely.
Let the foam take off a while. If you like it, you can stump the glass softly on the table, this will speed up the procedure.
If you're in hurry, put a little bit of the hot milk in the glass. If you like aromated Latte Macchiato, give the syrup to the hot milk.
The Espresso For The Latte Macchiato
Now it's time to make the espresso. A normal portion, the mini cup, is really enough.
Never use coffee instead of espresso and don't use caffeine-free espresso. An error is, to
put the aromated syrup to the espresso. The espresso will be more heavy than the milk and there will
be no layers. Please use the espresso hot, don't let it cool.
Now pour the espresso into the glass, slowly. If you are unsecure, you can also use the back side of a spoon. This make things easy. There will be wonderful layers.
Oops? This was all? Yes. It was. If you like, you can spread cocoa powder over the latte macchaito. If you use hazelnut syrup, use grinded hazelnuts; with chocolate syrup, use chocolate. Good matches the taste of latte macchiato also to Irish Cream Syrup and vanilla syrup. Please keep in mind to put the syrups to the milk, not to the espresso.
